North Borneo Material Culture Postcard #4 : Pisanngul & Bunga Kepala (Bisaya)
The Pisanggul is designed to resemble a buffalo's horns, signifying that the buffalo is a significant domestic animal for the Bisaya people. The buffalo also represents a person's prosperity and a prized bridewealth. Before the advent of contemporary beads and other embellishments, which gave artisans more options and flexibility to be inventive and artistic, the dangling beads were fashioned from job's tears (Coix lacryma-jobi) seeds. Bunga Kepala (floral headband), made of flaux flowers is worn together with the Pisanggul to adorn the wearer
Measurements of that Pisanggul & Bunga Kepala: 28cm (L) x 15.5 cm (H)
