In 1957, Malaysia gained her independence and Tunku Abdul Rahman became our first prime minister. Up until September 16, 1963, Malaysia was still known as the Federation of Malaya. The new Malaysia was formed after Sabah and Sarawak merged with Peninsula Malaya.
